Middle Fork

Known as one of the premier wilderness rivers in the world, Idaho’s Middle Fork of the Salmon is at the top of the list for both beginning river enthusiasts and seasoned river travelers alike. Idaho’s Middle Fork of the Salmon has something for all ages and experience levels: spectacular scenery in one of the deepest river gorges in North America, crystal clear water, blue ribbon trout fishing for native Westslope cutthroat trout, numerous riverside natural hot springs, abundant wildlife viewing, and both prehistoric, and recent historic sites to explore.
Over the course of your 5 or 6-day trip, Idaho’s Middle Fork of the Salmon will take you on a 105-mile journey that will provide memories for a lifetime. The Middle Fork of the Salmon is a free-flowing, snow melt fed river that was designated by Congress as one of the first eight rivers under the Wild and Scenic River Act, which was signed into law in 1968. Since then, the Middle Fork of the Salmon has remained unchanged by humans. If you want high adventure with big white water action, choose one of our earlier launch dates when the Middle Fork of the Salmon swells with Spring run-off. By the end of June, the run-off has typically subsided and the main summer launches are ideal for families and folks wanting a more relaxing trip.
As we descend the Middle Fork from the start at Boundary Creek, we will drop almost 3000 feet in elevation to our take-out point just below the confluence with the Main Salmon River. Along the way we will stop to explore historic sites, soak in natural hot springs, fish, and take in the natural beauty that surrounds us. A guide and helper will take off ahead of the main group each day in our large cargo boat, setting up tents and arranging our cooking and dinning areas in preparation for our arrival. As the main group travels between camps, we will stop to explore points of interest and to enjoy a delectable, freshly made riverside lunch. Once we arrive at our evening’s camp-site, the guides will help you get situated and some of them will start our evening’s meal. Idaho River Adventures provides a modest number of adult beverages and we always have fresh drinking water as well as drink mixes available.
