"I am not a camper in any sense of the word… but to drift along in this fashion… passing sandy beaches and on either side, the sharply creased mountain sides, fragrant with vanilla-scented ponderosa pines, was completely tranquilizing....It was true that the food was delicious, the amount of work expected from us nonexistent, the accommodations almost luxurious, the scenery unbelievable...."
Tama Janowitz - Bon Appetit Magazine

"White water and red wines are the stars of two expeditions... from Idaho's Salmon River Outfitters. Spend days shooting the rapids and nights sampling West Coast vintages with dinner."

Family Vactions in the Main Fork of the Salmon River

These regions of the west are world famous for award-winning wineries, and what could be a better setting for enjoying delicious food and fine wine than the banks of Idaho's Salmon River?  We select complementary wines for each evening meal, and help to hone your skills in the sensory evaluation of wine.

Many of the winemakers bring their families (with children).  You may look forward to meeting these entertaining professionals and sampling a variety of their favorite vintages.

Riverside Guest Lodges
-- June 5-9 (5 days): Rate - $1730/person
-- Sept. 11-16, 18-23 (6 days): Rate: $2195/person.

These special trips are designed for people who want to experience the remoteness of the river, yet enjoy comfortable indoor accommodations. Riverside Lodges combine a rustic atmosphere with modern conveniences.
In June the canyon is lush green, sprouting colorful new wildflowers, and we may see majestic elk before they move to higher elevations for the summer. September is known as 'Indian Summer' with crisp mornings, warm days and golden colors. This is also a good time for seeing bear and moose, plus eagles performing their aerial mating rituals.
We'll travel at a leisurely pace, ending each day's float at a secluded guest lodge, with hot showers and beds (private and shared rooms). You'll also meet the people who live here year-round, in a style similar to early homesteaders.
Our last evening will seem almost decadent as we soak in a hot tub overlooking the river.
